# Install and update

> Install Rageon, open it for the first time, and install new versions from the status bar.

Rageon installs with a regular Windows installer. Updates are offered inside the app.

## Install

**1. Download the installer**

Get the Rageon installer from the [Rageon website](https://rageon.dev).

**2. Run it**

Run the installer.

**3. Open Rageon**

Only one copy of Rageon runs at a time: opening the shortcut again brings the existing window to the front.

**4. Sign in**

A new installation shows **Sign in to Rageon**. Follow [Sign in](/start/sign-in.md), then [First setup](/start/first-setup.md).

## Install an update

Rageon checks for a new version once each time it opens, without telling you. If it finds none, or you are offline, nothing appears.

**1. Click Update to …**

When a version is available, an orange **Update to …** badge appears at the right end of the status bar.

**2. Read the notes**

The dialog **Rageon … is ready** lists the changes in **New**, **Changed**, **Fixed**, and **Removed**. **Full changelog** opens the changelog on the website.

The release notes dialog, with Later and Install and restart.

**3. Click Install and restart**

The badge and the button read **Installing the update…**. Rageon closes, installs the new version, and opens again. An update installs only if its signature checks out.

**Later** closes the dialog and keeps the badge, so you can come back to it.

## Troubleshooting

> **The update failed. Click to try again.**
>
> The download or installation did not finish. The badge reads this, and the dialog footer says **The update failed.** Click the badge to reopen the dialog, then **Install and restart** again. If it fails again, download the installer from the [Rageon website](https://rageon.dev) and run it over the current version.
