# First setup

> Let Rageon scan GTA V, point it to another folder if needed, add mod folders and a FiveM server, and pick a language.

After you sign in, Rageon scans your game by itself. Open **Settings** only if your game is not in the default Steam folder or you want to add mods, a server, or another language.

## Watch the first scan

Rageon reads the saved GTA V folder or, the first time, `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto V`. The status bar shows the progress.

**1. Loading keys and indexing RPFs...**

Rageon is opening your game files.

**2. Indexing assets...**

Rageon is building the asset catalog.

**3. Ready**

The dot turns green and the right side shows how many RPFs and assets were indexed, with the number of extra folders if you added any.

If the scan ends in a red **Error: …**, the folder is wrong or is not a GTA V Legacy installation. Continue below.

## Choose the GTA V folder

**1. Click the gear**

**Settings** opens on the **App** tab.

**2. Choose the folder**

In **GTA V folder**, click **Choose** and pick the folder that contains `GTA5.exe`, or type the path. The footer reads **Pending** and the button reads **Save and scan**.

**3. Click Save and scan**

The button shows **Indexing...** and the dialog closes when the scan ends.

## Optional steps

* **Mod folders.** Under **Directories**, click **Add** to read folders with loose `.rpf` files, models, and textures together with the game. Their content wins over the base game. Turn on **Watch** to rescan when files change. See [Settings: App](/settings/app.md#add-extra-folders).
* **A FiveM server.** In the **Bridge** tab, click **Add** and choose the server folder. See [Settings: Bridge](/settings/bridge.md).
* **Language.** **Language** offers **English (US)**, **Português (Brasil)**, and **Español**. The button becomes **Save and reload**. See [Change the language](/settings/app.md#change-the-language).

>
> **Close** discards unsaved changes without asking, and so does clicking outside the dialog.

Next, open [Browse assets](/assets/browse.md) or press **Ctrl+P**. The cache that Rageon builds is managed in [Settings: Cache](/settings/cache.md).

## Troubleshooting

> **Error: …**
>
> The scan failed. Check **GTA V folder** and the folders under **Directories**, then click **Save and scan**. GTA V Enhanced is not supported; see [Requirements](/start/requirements.md).

> **Sources changed, rescanning...**
>
> A folder with **Watch** on changed, so Rageon scans again. Turn **Watch** off for that folder to stop it.
