# Weapon tints

> Edit a weapon's color palette and add new tints players can select.

A **Tints** edit changes the palette a weapon uses for its tints. The stage shows only the 3D weapon: there are no layers, only colors.

## Edit the palette

**1. Pick the weapon**

In **New edit**, select **Tints**, search for the weapon, and click **Continue**. The right column tab becomes **Tints** with a count.

**2. Select a tint**

The list has **Original**, which is what the weapon wears by default, followed by **Tint 1**, **Tint 2**, and so on. The 3D preview wears the selected row.

**3. Set the colors**

Under **Zones of …**, use **Paint all** to give the whole tint one color, or set **Zone 1**, **Zone 2**, and so on separately. A weapon can hold a fixed number of tints; **New tint** is disabled once it is full.

A new tint copied from Original, with its zones.

**New tint** adds a tint copied from the selected one. **Remove this tint** deletes the selected tint; **Original** cannot be removed.

## Use it in game

Export writes the edited palette `.ytd` under `stream/`. If the edited palette has more tints than the game already offers, the resource also gets a `weapons.meta` patch to expose them. Select a tint with `SetPedWeaponTintIndex`; availability in a server's weapon shop depends on its scripts.

## Troubleshooting

If Rageon cannot open an editable tint palette for the weapon, choose another weapon. A **Skin** edit is a separate workflow for painting artwork ([Weapon skins](/projects/texturing/skins.md)).

> **This weapon supports … tints**
>
> The weapon is at its tint limit. Remove a tint you do not need.
