# Liveries

> Paint a new livery on an unfolded template of the vehicle and export it as a selectable vehicle mod.

A **Livery** edit gives a vehicle a new paint scheme. Rageon unfolds the car's body into a flat template, you paint on it, and the 3D preview shows the result on the car.

## Create a livery

**1. Pick the vehicle**

In **New edit**, select **Livery**, search for a vehicle, and click it. Vehicles of the project are pinned under **In this project** ([Texturing](/projects/texturing/overview.md#emergency-vehicles-from-your-project)). Click **Continue**.

**2. Choose the resolution**

**New livery** shows the unfolded body template. Set **Resolution** to `512`, `1024`, or `2048`; the initial default is `1024`, and later liveries reuse your choice during the editor session. The footer shows the size of the sheet, whose shape follows the template. Larger sheets cost texture memory on every instance of the car.

**3. Click Create livery**

The stage opens a transparent sheet with the template as a guide, and the 3D car wears whatever you paint. The edit is named `…_livery1`, then `…_livery2`, and so on, and its card is tagged **livery**.

In **Viewer**, **Map mode** switches the guide between **Hidden** and **Template**. The template boxes are labeled **Left side**, **Right side**, **Roof and hood**, **Front**, **Rear**, and **Bottom**. A car that already has a real livery map shows **Author's map** instead.

**4. Add layers**

Paint with [layers and tools](/projects/texturing/layers-and-tools.md): images, brush, text, gradients.

To repaint a livery the car already has, use **Model texture** and set **Texture use** to **Livery** instead ([Model and global textures](/projects/texturing/model-textures.md)).

## Use it in game

Export adds a livery in vehicle mod slot 48. Call `SetVehicleModKit(veh, 0)` before `SetVehicleMod(veh, 48, n)`. Factory liveries stay in place; the new liveries follow them. The exported `README.txt` lists their index range.

See [Export a project](/projects/export.md) for the resource.

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Resolution** | Size of the image that goes into the game: `512`, `1024`, or `2048`. | Initially `1024`; then your last choice in the editor session |

## Troubleshooting

> **This model's body was not found.**
>
> The vehicle has no body Rageon can unfold, so **Create livery** is disabled. Choose another vehicle.

> **Could not build the livery template: …**
>
> The template could not be built for this vehicle. Choose another vehicle, or reopen **New edit** and try again.

> **Bodywork not found. No 3D preview.**
>
> The preview has no body to dress. The sheet still exports; check the result in game.
