# Projects

> Create, open, and organize projects, switch between their tools, and bring game assets into them.

A project is a folder ending in `.gxp` that holds your work: texture edits, structures, props, and emergency vehicles. You export it as a FiveM resource when it is ready. The game installation is never written to.

## Create a project

**1. Click New project**

In the **Projects** tab, click **New project**. The project opens in the Texturing tool. Save it to create its `.gxp` folder.

A new project in Texturing, with the Tools rail on the left.

**2. Name it**

Click the name in the project bar (**Project name**) and type a new one.

**3. Click Save**

Choose a folder in the system dialog. The project name becomes the name of the `.gxp` folder, and the project joins **Recent**. Emergency vehicles need a saved project, because each one is stored as a file in that folder.

## Open a project

The project list shows the projects you opened or saved lately, newest first. It keeps 20.

![Project cards in a grid, with Recent, Folders, and Period filters on the left](https://mintcdn.com/rageon/SL02705KjqddBRzg/images/projects/projects-recent-list.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SL02705KjqddBRzg\&q=85\&s=7a98b617a76bda1d23dc6850167260f6)

The project list with the Recent rail, folder and period filters, and search.

* Click a card to open it.
* Click **Open…** and choose a `.gxp` folder, or drop a `.gxp` folder on the panel.
* Type in **Search project…** to match a name or a path.
* In **Recent**, filter by a folder or by **Today**, **Last 7 days**, or **Older**. Only one filter applies at a time, and search runs within it. **All** removes the filter. Each group appears only when it has more than one option.
* Click a card's name to rename that project without opening it.
* Click the ✕ on a card to forget it. The folder stays on disk.

Before you create or open anything, the list is empty.

The list before any project exists.

## Work in a project

An open project stays open when you switch to another tab. The **Tools** rail on the left picks what you work on:

| Tool | What it is for |
| - | - |
| **Texturing** | Textures, liveries, and tints of game models. See [Texturing](/projects/texturing/overview.md). |
| **Modeling** › **Structures** | Map editing: interiors (MLO), props, and geometry. |
| **Modeling** › **Props** | Objects you model once and place in any structure or by script. |
| **Vehicles** › **Emergency vehicles** | Colors, parts, extras, lightbars, sirens, and handling. See [Emergency vehicles](/projects/emergency-vehicles/overview.md). |

Export combines the exportable content from these tools in one project resource. **Save**, **Undo**, and **Redo** act on the document open in the active tool. The project menu badge shows that document's state: **Saved**, **Not saved**, or **Failed**.

> [!TIP]
>
> Use Ctrl+S to save, Ctrl+Z to undo, and Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y to redo. These shortcuts are ignored while a text field or dialog has focus. On macOS, use Command instead of Ctrl.

Click the folder icon next to the project name, or choose **Project sheet…** in the project menu, to open the **Project** sheet. It shows the folder, the game folder, the dates, and a resource name derived from the project name. Each export destination can use a different name. Its **Edited** list and **Output** preview cover Texturing only; structures, props, and vehicles can still export when this sheet says **Nothing edited yet.**

The Project sheet of a saved project.

To close a project, return to the active tool's list, then click **Back to the project list**. If anything is unsaved, **Close project** asks first. **Discard** drops every unsaved change, including an open structure, prop, or vehicle.

## Add game assets to a project

Assets and the Map send items to your project. The Viewer has no project action: find the model in Assets and send it from there.

**1. Send the asset from Assets**

Select a model, then choose **Open in** › **Projects** and a task. The tasks depend on the asset: **Edit texture**, **Create livery**, **Emergency vehicle**, and others. [Open in Viewer and Projects](/assets/send-to-project.md) lists them.

![Open in Projects submenu for police3 with Edit texture, Create livery, and Emergency vehicle](https://mintcdn.com/rageon/SL02705KjqddBRzg/images/projects/projects-open-in-tasks.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SL02705KjqddBRzg\&q=85\&s=bdb1c60a5ba9e67edc37a672362341d8)

Tasks offered for police3.

**2. Pick the project**

Choose the open project, a recent one, or **New project**. A new project takes the asset's name.

![Project destinations for the Emergency vehicle task](https://mintcdn.com/rageon/SL02705KjqddBRzg/images/projects/projects-open-in-destinations.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SL02705KjqddBRzg\&q=85\&s=ee672cbd69750767fb9c43cdb1e7671a)

Destinations: a recent project and New project.

The app switches to **Projects** and runs the task. If switching projects would discard unsaved changes, **Switch project** offers **Discard** or **Cancel**.

From the **Map**, select an object and choose **Open in Projects**: **Create interior**, **Edit geometry** (a new structure with the model's geometry), or **Edit texture**.

A request from the Map waits if no project is open; open or create a project to continue. An **Emergency vehicle** request also needs a saved project: click **Save project** if prompted. Texture and structure requests can run in an unsaved project. **Cancel** drops the request.

A request waiting for a project.

## Limits and plans

Your plan sets how many projects you can save, how many textures a project holds, how many structures it holds, how many interiors a structure holds, and how many FiveM servers you can link. Rageon reports the limit when you reach it. The numbers are on the [pricing page](https://rageon.dev/pricing).

If you move to a smaller plan, you can still open and edit what you have. You can only export what fits the new plan.

## Troubleshooting

> **Could not open the project: …**
>
> The folder is gone, has no project file, or is damaged. Choose another folder. The entry leaves **Recent**.

> **Could not save: …**
>
> Rageon could not write to the folder. Pick another folder, or one you can write to.

> **Could not rename the project: …**
>
> The card rename failed. Open the project and rename it in the project bar.

> **Your plan allows up to … projects.**
>
> The first **Save** of a new project is blocked by your plan. Reopening or saving a project you already saved does not count.

Other errors come from the tool you were using and name the problem after the colon.
