# Weapons and weapon mods

> Capture weapons with their magazines, variants, and tints, or attachments on the weapon they belong to.

**Weapons** renders whole weapons. **Weapon mods** renders attachments such as scopes, suppressors, and magazines. To dress one weapon by hand and save one image, use the Viewer ([Weapons](/viewer/weapons.md) and [Image capture](/viewer/image-capture.md)).

## Capture weapons

![Weapons mode with eight weapons selected and the With magazine, All variants, and All tints toggles](https://mintcdn.com/rageon/tGC-5rfc07564TOG/images/capture/capture-weapons.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=tGC-5rfc07564TOG\&q=85\&s=2f523c0123671f49ab05299b56292b68)

Weapons mode with magazine, variant, and tint options.

**1. Open Weapons**

Click **Capture**, then **Weapons**. Search by model name. Weapon models start with `w_`: `w_pi_pistol` is the pistol and `w_ar_carbinerifle` the carbine rifle. Do not search by the command name.

**2. Choose what each weapon includes**

By default each weapon is captured once: base model, default magazine, first tint. **With magazine**, **All variants**, and **All tints** change that (table below).

**3. Name the extra images**

Each expansion needs its own variable in the name template. See [File names](#file-names).

**4. Preview and capture**

Click **Preview**, then **Weapon**, to check the weapon. Preview shows the first combination only, not every variant and tint. Set the camera and [output](/capture/output.md), then click **Capture**.

| Option | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **With magazine** | Includes the default magazine. Off captures the weapon without it. | On |
| **All variants** | Adds every visual variant of the weapon next to the base. | Off |
| **All tints** | Adds every available tint. | Off |

**All variants** and **All tints** multiply the images. The footer estimate does not include them, so the **Capturing** dialog shows the final total. Some variants define their own tint.

## Capture weapon mods

Weapon mods mode with a weapon's attachments expanded.

**1. Open Weapon mods**

Click **Weapon mods** and search in **Search weapons or mods...**. It finds weapons by name and attachments by name. Parts are grouped under their weapons.

**2. Choose parts**

**All slots** limits attachments to **Magazine**, **Scope**, **Suppressor**, **Flashlight/Laser**, **Camo**, or **Other**. Check a whole weapon, or click **Show mods** to pick single parts. A part shared by several weapons is captured on each weapon you select. **Parts with no declared weapon** lists parts the game does not tie to a weapon. They are mounted on the first weapon you checked, or shown alone when **Fit the mod onto a base weapon** is off. Visual variants belong to **Weapons**, not here.

**3. Set how the weapon looks under the part**

Use the **Base weapon** options below. Preview has a **Base weapon** tab.

**4. Click Capture**

Set the camera and [output](/capture/output.md) first. Turn on **Frame only the part** in the camera ([Cameras](/capture/cameras.md)) for a close-up of the attachment.

### Base weapon options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Fit the mod onto a base weapon** | Shows the attachment on its weapon. Off renders it alone. | On |
| **Base style** | **Real textures**, **Solid color**, or **Shaded color** for the weapon under the part. | **Solid color** |
| **Base color** | Color of the base. Only with **Solid color** or **Shaded color**. | Neutral gray |
| **Base opacity (100%)** | Fades the weapon so the part stands out. The part stays opaque. | 100% |
| **Opacity on the whole model** | Fades the weapon as one object. Off also shows overlapping inner parts. Only below 100%. | On |
| **Mod on top of the base** | Keeps the weapon from hiding the part. | On |
| **Base tint** | Tint of the base weapon. Only with **Real textures**. | First tint |

## File names

Besides the [general variables](/capture/output.md#file-names), weapon modes add these.

| Variable | Result |
| - | - |
| `{{weapon_variant}}` | `base` or the visual variant name |
| `{{weapon_tint}}`, `{{weapon_tint_name}}` | Tint number and tint name |
| `{{weapon_magazine}}` | `mag` or `nomag` |
| `{{weapon_mod}}`, `{{weapon_mod_kind}}` | Attachment model and type (Weapon mods) |
| `{{weapon_base}}`, `{{weapon_base_name}}` | Model and catalog name of the weapon the part belongs to (Weapon mods) |

Capture stays disabled until the template covers what you turned on:

* **All variants** needs `{{weapon_variant}}`.
* **All tints** needs `{{weapon_tint}}` or `{{weapon_tint_name}}`.
* Parts from several weapons need `{{weapon_base}}` or `{{weapon_base_name}}`.

![Name template dialog with weapon variant and tint variables](https://mintcdn.com/rageon/tGC-5rfc07564TOG/images/capture/capture-weapon-names.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=tGC-5rfc07564TOG\&q=85\&s=49c8637151fbdd75d1824545f976ac6a)

A name template that covers variants and tints.

For both expansions, `{{variant}}_{{model_name}}_{{weapon_variant}}_{{weapon_tint}}_{{angle}}` covers everything.

## Troubleshooting

> **No weapons with mods here. Change the slot or clear the search.**
>
> No weapon with attachments matches. Set **All slots** back to all, or clear the search.

> **Edit the name template and add \{\{weapon\_variant}} for the variants.**
>
> Add `{{weapon_variant}}` to the **Name template** under **File names**.

> **Edit the name template and add \{\{weapon\_tint}} or \{\{weapon\_tint\_name}} for the tints.**
>
> Add `{{weapon_tint}}` or `{{weapon_tint_name}}` to the **Name template**.

> **Edit the name template and add \{\{weapon\_variant}} for the variants and \{\{weapon\_tint}} or \{\{weapon\_tint\_name}} for the tints.**
>
> Add both kinds of variable to the **Name template**.

> **Edit the name template and add \{\{weapon\_base}} — with more than one base weapon, captures of the same piece overwrite each other.**
>
> Add `{{weapon_base}}` or `{{weapon_base_name}}` to the **Name template**.
